Leh is the town located in the ‘Leh District” of Jammu & Kashmir state of India. Earlier Leh use to be the capital of Himalyan ranges of Ladakh and being operational from Leh Palace. Leh Palace is the former house of the royal family of Ladakh region. Leh is situated at an altitude of 11,562 feet (3,524 mtr), which is connected form two sides of National Highways – 1. From west side Leh is connected to Srinagar and from South side, Leh is connected to Manali. Water source of Leh town is from Zanskar river which flows into a river called Indus.

There is a place called Leh Palace which was built in 17th century, which is built in traditional Buddhist style. Thiksey Monastery, which is located in the southeast direction of Leh, where one can see the amazing view at the time of sunset. Richest monastery of Ladakh is Hemis Monastery, this is the oldest monastery as well.
One of the most important festivals of Leh Ladakh is a 2 Days ladakh Festival. This festival held in the month of September in first two week. The participants come in a traditional clothing and they sing their ladakhy folk songs with a support of orchestra. It starts in the town of leh with a huge parade. Some of the selcted monks from monasteries take a part and dance in this while wearing a mask, which mean evil spirits gets demolish.
Another festival is Hemis Monastery festival, which held every year in the month of June or July for 2 days. Hemis Gompa is the place to celebrate the birth of Lord Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), known as the founder of Tantric Buddhism. The birth of Lord Padmasambhava considered to be on 10th day of fifth month of the Monkey year.
By road the best time to visit leh ladakh start from May to September. As both of the routes from Srinagar to Leh and Manali Leh opens by the mid of May and close again by start of October. As ladakh doesn’t experience much of the rains, so that the good time to visit is monsoon.
